Orangewood stick

The orange wood stick has many uses when prepping and applying your press-on nails From Maggie xx, it is first used to push back your cuticles, and scrape away any dead skin on the nail plate.

For application it is used to clean up any glue on the sidewalls or under the nail, or to roll between the natural nail plate and the press-on to remove the jelly tabs.

Alcohol prep pads

The alcohol pads are used, after the nails are fully prepared with cuticles pushed back, nails filed and buffed, and your hands washed and completely dry. You'll wipe every nail with the alcohol pad, looking for each nails to have a dehydrated white scaly look to it. This is the last step before application

Buffing block

The buffing block is used to buff the top layer of the natural nail plate to help remove any dead skin and any oils left on the nail before press-on application.

It is also used to buff the underneath of the press-on nail to help it stick to the jelly tab or adhere to the nail glue.

Jelly Tabs

Jelly tabs are used when you are using the press-on nails for 1-2 days.

Select a jelly tab that will fully cover the natural nail, removing it from the plastic sheet and apply the sticky side directly onto the natural nail and press firmly onto the nail, and then remove the plastic covering.  Apply the press-on nail making sure its straight and in the correct position, then firmly pressing the press-on nail onto the jelly tab hold for 10-15 seconds, making sure it is completely adhered.

Mini File

The mini file is to shorten and shape your natural nail so your sidewalls fit tightly to the press on and so you don't have to much nail length under your press-on.

Also the mini file is used if you need to slightly file any sides of your press-on nails so they fit your natural nail shape better.

Nail Glue

Nail glue is only to be used if you intend on keeping your press-on nails From Maggie xx on for at least 2 WEEKS or LONGER. the glue is strong nail glue and will cause damage to your natural nail plate if removed before the 2 week period. The Press-on can last with the nail glue for 2-4 weeks depending on how well you take care of your nails.

The nail glue is applied after all preparation to the nails have been completed, and in very small amounts so you don't get glue on your skin or under your natural nail plate.

Even with the use of nail glue, you can still safety remove your press-on nails without damaging your natural nail plate (if removed correctly) or the press-on nails, so you can use them again at a later date.

How to Apply press-ons

How to apply press-ons

Press-on Nail Preparation;

  1. Start by unpacking the press-on nail kit, and organizing what you will be using onto a clean surface and/or paper towel.

  2. Check to make sure all nails fit your finger nails.

  3. Slightly file the edges that don’t fit perfectly to ensure your press-on nails fit your nails perfectly before beginning.

  4. Take an alcohol wipe, and wipe backs of press-ons nails to remove any oil or debris, and place them in a safe spot until you’ve completed the next steps.

Nail Preparation;

  1. Take an orangewood stick and gently push back your cuticles, and scrape away any dead skin left on the nail plate.

  2. Take the buffing block and lightly buff the top of the nail to remove the top thin layer of the nail that contains oils and anything else that will compromise your press-on nail application and longevity.

  3. Take file and shape nails so they are even, and so they are smooth along the edge, and top. (Jelly tad application; it’s recommended that you file or clip your nail very short so you don’t create a ledge between the nail and the press-on. By keeping the natural nails very short you are making it harder for makeup, food, and any other debris to get stuck between your natural nails and the press-ons.)

  1. Wash hands and remove any dust left on nails, scrubbing them with a nail brush (if you have one).

  2. Make sure hands and especially nails are extremely dry before beginning the next step.

Press-on Nail application; with nail glue (lasts from 2-3+ weeks)

(DO NOT APPLY - if you are removing press-on nails before 2 week period)

1.     Take alcohol wipes and wipe all nails of the hand you’re applying the nails to.

  • Make all nails look dehydrated after wiping them, and that you don’t touch them with anything other than nail glue, and the press-ons, ensuring that no excess oils or debris get onto the nail plate and cause the press-on nails to lift.

2.     Open glue and do a test dot on the first nail, making sure the glue isn't coming out too quickly.

3.    Next apply glue to the middle of the nails, being sure not to apply glue too close to the edges of the nail. This              ensures that when you apply the press-on nail that the press-on nail moves the glue to the edges of your nail, without the glue spilling out and onto your skin.

4.     Let the glue sit on your nail for 10-15 seconds before applying the nail, (this allows the glue to get tacky gripping the press-on nail better when you apply it to your finger, instead of it being a more watery consistency).

  • If you apply the nail and the glue does spill out onto your skin in any direction, remove the nail and wipe the glue away then reapply.

  • If you do not remove the glue on your skin your press-on nails will not last as long. Also when applying the press-on nails, be sure to make sure that they are straight with your finger nail, so that they don’t dry crooked.

6.    Once you have applied the Press-on nail and there isn’t any over spill of glue onto your skin, and the nail is straight, hold the nail in place for 20-25 seconds until the nail is secured and glued in place. (If you do this and the nail isn’t secured in place, add more glue, and reapply using the steps above as reference.)

7.     Repeat these steps until all of all of the press-on nails are applied.

Press-on Nail application; with jelly tabs (lasts 1-3 days)

1.    Take alcohol wipes and wipe all nails of the hand you’re applying the nails to.

  • Make all nails look dehydrated after wiping them, and that you don’t touch them with anything other than the jelly tad, and the press-on nails, ensuring that no excess oils or debris get onto the nail plate and cause the press-on nails to lift.

2.    Remove the jelly tab that fits a specific nail and apply straight onto the nail plate.

3.    Remove plastic covering, and press nail directly onto jelly tab.

4.    Repeat with every nail.

How to remove your press-ons; Glue application

1.    Get a bowl that fits both hands, (you can do them one at a time if you only have a smaller bowl).

2.    Fill your bowl with really warm water

3.    Add any oil (olive, avocado, baby oil, etc…) about 5 tablespoons

4.    Then add about 5 drops of regular dish soap

5.    Soak your hand(s) in this for 10-15 minutes

  • How this process works; While your hands are in the water mixture, your fingers are swelling microscopically, and the very warm water is helping the blood flow to your fingers, shifting how the glue is attached to your nail plate. Also the oil and dish soap is breaking down the glue and the bond it has on your nail plate and the press-on.

6.   By the end of the 10 minutes, you should be able to slightly wiggle your press-ons, until they cleanly separate from your nail plate, leaving both your nail and press-on intact

7.    Dry off the nails with a piece of paper towel.

8.    Once dried, you can take a small piece of paper with some nail polish remover and remove any leftover nail glue, so you can reuse this set again in future.

9.    Don't forget to store these nails in a dry dark place, until their next use.

How to remove press-ons

How to remove your press-ons; Jelly tab application

  1. Gather the necessary tools: orangewood stick , nail buffer, and nail file, and a bowl of warm water.

  2. Begin by soaking your nails for 5-10 minutes. This will help soften the jelly tabs and make them easier to remove.

  3. After soaking, gently lift the edge of the press-on nail using the orangewood stick. Start from the side and work your way across the nail twirling the orangewood stick in your fingers as you go, being careful not to force or pry too hard to avoid damaging your natural nails.

  4. Once you’ve lifted the edge, in a twirling motion use the orangewood stick and go down the centre of your natural nail plate. This should cause the jelly tab to loosen and free from the natural nail plate in a ball of jelly.

  5. If they don’t come off easily at this point, then continue making the twirling motion with the orangewood stick between your fingers, and continue to go back around the nail further losing the jelly tab. Avoid pulling or tugging forcefully, as this can cause your natural nails to peel or weaken.

  6. If there is any residue adhesive left on your natural nails, use the orangewood stick to gently scrape it off. Be cautious and gentle to avoid damaging the nail surface.

  7. Once the adhesive is removed, use a nail buffer and lightly buff the surface of your natural nails. This will help smooth out any roughness or residue.

  8. Wash your hands thoroughly to remove any debris or residue from the removal process.

Press-on nail maitenance

Press-on nail maintenance;

  • Do not have your hands in water, or get them wet for 1-2 hours after applying nails, as the glue takes longer to completely dry.

  • Make sure to treat your nails like jewels not tools to ensure that they last longer, and so they can be reused many more times to come.

  • Apply cuticle oil and hand moisturizer after 1-2 hours of application. Not only does cuticle oil and hand moisturizer make your hands and skin around your nails look nicer, it helps nourish your nails and keeps your press-ons and nail plate flexible so you can enjoy your press-ons longer.

  • Keeping a nail brush in your shower or next to your sink, is a great way to remember to scrub under your nails when you are washing your hands or in the shower. This helps to avoid any build up of makeup, face products, food, dirt, etc.. under your pressons, and keep them looking fresh and clean longer.
